Waikīkī Aquarium
Founded 1904

ABOUT THE Aquarium.

A small aquarium with a big heart on the shores of Waikīkī, and a working marine science center of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Older than the state of Hawaiʻi.
Since 1904

We opened on March 19, 1904 — fifty-five years before statehood. Tracing 120+ years of marine science, war-time closures, and the 1955 move to our current Kalākaua Avenue home.

Why we exist

Inspire. Conserve. Educate.
