Ocean Aquaculture
Featuring the moi, a fish once reserved for Hawaiian royalty.

This exhibit features the Pacific Six Fingered Threadfin (known locally as moi), an esteemed food fish. Once raised in Hawaiian fishponds as food exclusively for the royalty, the “moi” has had an important role in aquaculture from past to present. To meet the present day demands for this popular food fish efforts have been made by State and private companies to replenish and supplement the wild populations through active breeding and reintroduction programs. The fish on exhibit were captive bred by Anuenue Fisheries, State of Hawaii.
