The Aquarium aims to inspire and promote understanding, appreciation, and conservation of Pacific marine life, and more than 200 wonderful volunteers help make that mission a reality.
Basic requirements
- Be at least 18 years old (exceptions: Teen Programs, Beach & Algae Clean-Ups).
- Complete the required online Volunteer Application.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Provide a TB clearance.
- Meet in-person with Volunteer Program staff.
- Be able to commit at least 3–6 months to most programs.

Lead public tours and engage with visitors at exhibit stations.

Living Exhibits Aquarist Assistant
Help our aquarists with husbandry, food prep and tank maintenance.

NWHI Educator
Staff our Northwestern Hawaiian Islands exhibit and lead interpretive talks.

Volunteer Enrichment Tours
Receive specialized training and lead niche tours for VIPs and members.

Gift Shop
Assist customers and process sales in our oceanfront gift shop.

Volunteer Enrichment Workdays
Quarterly workdays focused on grounds, plants and outdoor exhibit upkeep.

Facility Maintenance
Hands-on support for grounds, painting, light carpentry and event setup.
