A rescue story eight years in the making.

Hōʻailona was found on the island of Kauaʻi in 2008, abandoned by his mother at birth. That discovery was the beginning of a long journey for "Hōʻa," which on November 1, 2011 led him to a permanent home at the Waikīkī Aquarium in Honolulu.

The Aquarium partners with NOAA Fisheries to provide education, conduct outreach, and continue research necessary to gain critical information on monk seal health and disease. Every visit, every share of his stream, helps the wider effort to save this endemic and critically endangered species.
